Overview
About this 6 day journey
Northern Morocco is the country at its most varied: a cosmopolitan port facing Europe, a blue mountain town in the Rif, the medieval medina of Fez, and the capital of Rabat on the Atlantic. This six day journey takes you through all four with a private driver and guide.
It begins at Tangier’s Ibn Battuta airport, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and finishes with an early transfer to Casablanca for your flight home. It is a compact, rewarding trip for those with a short window and a taste for architecture, history, and mountain scenery.

Day by day
Day 1
Tangier to Chefchaouen
We pick you up from Tangier Ibn Battuta airport and take you to the Caves of Hercules and Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. The tour also includes the ancient medina of Tangier, with stunning views over the Strait of Gibraltar.
Then we continue through the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen, the Blue City of Morocco. Your riad is inside the old medina. After you check in, an orientation tour features the highlights of the medina and the area around it. Dinner and an overnight at the riad.
Overnight: Riad in Chefchaouen
Day 2
Chefchaouen
After breakfast you tour the medina of Chefchaouen, with the old part of the hill town and a visit to the famous kasbah. After an independent lunch at a local restaurant, you visit the waterfalls at Ras el Maa, where women do the washing in the spring.
The late afternoon and evening are free, with dinner at the riad or a local restaurant.
Overnight: Riad in Chefchaouen
Day 3
Chefchaouen to Fez
Chefchaouen to Volubilis to Moulay Idriss to Meknes to Fez
Today you drive toward Fez, with several stops to enjoy the countryside. You visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the small town of Moulay Idriss, where you have a delicious lunch.
Then you reach the imperial city of Meknes, the Moroccan Versailles, founded at the end of the seventeenth century by Sultan Moulay Ismail, where highlights include Bab el Mansour, perhaps the finest gateway in Africa, the Dar Jamai Museum, the old medina, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. You continue to Fez for dinner and the night.
Overnight: Riad in Fez
Day 4
The Fez Medina
Fez
After breakfast we begin the exploration of the oldest city and spiritual capital of Morocco. Step back six centuries into the medieval medina, with narrow cobbled streets, ancient mosques, towering green glazed minarets, and crumbling fondouks.
Narrow openings reveal courtyards of carved cedar, brilliantly colored mosaic tiles, and delicately carved stucco. My tour includes madrasas, mosques, the famous tanneries, and much more, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
Overnight: Riad in Fez
Day 5
Fez to Rabat
In the morning you head west toward Rabat, the capital. There you tour the medina, featuring the Oudayas Kasbah with its Andalusian gardens and the Moor’s tea house. Then you visit the ancient part of the medina near Bab Laalou and the Chellah necropolis.
The tour of Rabat also includes the Hassan district with the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Overnight: Riad in Rabat
Day 6
Rabat to Casablanca Airport
An early transfer takes you to Casablanca airport for your return flight. Please share your flight time so we can plan the departure.
