Private Tours in Morocco: How to Choose the Right One

Quick answer

A private tour gives you your own driver guide, your own pace and a route built around you. A group tour costs less per person but follows a fixed plan. Whichever you choose, check that the guide is officially licensed and that the price says clearly what is included.

Private or group?

Private tourGroup tour
PaceYours, changed day by dayFixed timetable
RouteBuilt around your interestsSame for everyone
GroupYour family or friends onlyUsually 10 to 16 strangers

For couples who like to linger, families with children and anyone with special interests, private is usually the better choice. Solo travelers on a tight budget often prefer a small group.

Seven kinds of private tour

  • Imperial cities: Fez, Meknes, Rabat and Marrakech, with palaces, madrasas and markets. See Imperial Cities.
  • Sahara journeys: kasbahs, oases and nights in a desert camp. See desert tours from Fez.
  • Atlas and village trips: light walks, local meals and rural life.
  • Luxury escapes: palace riads, private transfers, spa time and slower days. See luxury travel in Morocco.
  • Food and markets: tastings, bakeries, tea and cooking classes.
  • Coast and culture: Essaouira, Asilah and El Jadida for a calmer rhythm.
  • Photography and special interests: golden hour stops, birdwatching, gardens and Jewish heritage.

How to compare operators

  • Ask for the guide’s official license number. In Morocco a national guide holds a card from the Ministry of Tourism.
  • Check who actually guides you, the owner or a subcontractor.
  • Read recent reviews on more than one site.
  • Compare what is included: hotels, meals, entry fees, the desert camp, tips.
  • Ask how flexible the days are once you are on the road.

How we work

I have guided since 2004, and Uniquely Morocco is my family company in Fez. Every tour is private. We suggest the riads and camps, arrange the visits through people I know, and adjust each day to your pace. Prices are on our pricing page and every route is on tours and itineraries.

Questions

Quick questions

Are private tours in Morocco expensive?

Less than many expect for 3 or more travelers, because the car and guide are shared within your group.

Can a private tour be changed on the road?

Yes, that is the main advantage.

Do private tours include hotels?

Ours do. Always check what an operator includes.

Is a private tour more expensive than a group tour?

Usually yes for one or two people, but for families and small groups the difference is often small, and the comfort and freedom are much greater.
