From Casablanca Airport to Tangier or Fez: Train or Private Transfer?

The Casablanca tram passing Art Deco buildings in the city centre

Quick answer

Most international flights land at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca. To reach Tangier, take the airport train to Casa Voyageurs station, then the Al Boraq high speed train, which takes about 2 hours 10 minutes to Tangier. For Fez, there are direct trains from Casa Voyageurs, or a private transfer. After a long flight, a private driver meeting you in arrivals is the easiest choice.

By train to Tangier

The airport train leaves from the station under the terminal and runs to Casa Voyageurs, the main station in Casablanca. From there the Al Boraq high speed train reaches Tangier in about 2 hours 10 minutes, far faster than the road. I often plan it for guests who start their trip in the north, because it saves a long transfer on the day they land.

Buy tickets on the ONCF website, oncf-voyages.ma, where booking opens up to three months ahead, or let me book them for you as part of your tour. First class is comfortable and worth the small difference, especially with luggage. In Tangier a driver can meet you on the platform and take you to your riad.

By train to Fez

Trains also run from Casa Voyageurs to Fez, passing Rabat and Meknes. The journey is longer than to Tangier and the trains are not high speed, but it is an easy and relaxed way to travel.

By private transfer

A private transfer means your driver waits for you in arrivals with your name, takes your bags and drives you to your door. It is the simplest option after a night flight, for families, or when you arrive late. On my private tours, airport transfers are always included. See what is included in a private tour.

Fares rise as the date approaches, so booking early saves money. Tickets go on sale about three months ahead on the ONCF website, and the station ticket offices accept cash and cards. Al Boraq opened in 2018 and was the first high speed line in Africa, running at up to 320 kilometres per hour.

Tips for the train

  • Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early, because there is a ticket check before the platform.
  • First class has larger seats and a little more space for luggage.
  • Keep your ticket until you leave the arrival station.
  • Trains are very busy around Eid and school holidays.
